Clare Bowen

^^

When: Sunday 9th July
Where: Enmore Theatre

Australian-born, US-based singer-songwriter-actress, Clare Bowen, today announces that she will return home to play an extensive ten-date concert series around the country this July. Perhaps best known for her leading role as Scarlett O’Connor on the US prime-time TV series NASHVILLE, Clare Bowen is a ferocious and gifted performer, enthralling in the live arena. “The most magical thing about Clare is how she becomes the music - her body vibrates, she becomes swallowed up by the sound and the emotion - and it was transfixing to watch. After hearing her, you remember what it means to be alive.” – Scenestr. Clare is currently juggling time in the studio recording her anticipated debut album, alongside her NASHVILLE filming commitments. Clare has been writing and recording with A-list producers on this project and hopes to release it this year. Earlier in the year, the starlet partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and released her first solo song. ‘Love Steps In’, penned by Clare’s fiancé Brandon Robert Young and the couple’s friend Justin Halpin, is a tribute to her younger brother, Timothy James Bowen, who spent all of 2016 fighting end-stage cancer. The beautiful song has touched many people around the world and is accompanied by a powerful music video which can be viewed here. Timothy is now in remission and will be opening the tour for Clare. Years before launching her career as a singer-songwriter, a young Clare Bowen was growing up in rural Australia, miles from the nearest city, writing down everything she felt, heard, saw and dreamed. “Music was my connection to the rest of the world,” she says. “I was brought up on my parents vinyl collection - everything from Vivaldi, to Elvis, to Dolly, to Springsteen, Edith Piaf and Etta James.” Music lovers, don’t miss your chance to experience this captivating artist on her homecoming theatre tour this July!

Father John Misty

^^

When: Sunday 23rd July
Where: Metro Theatre

Secret Sounds is super excited to announce that Father John Misty is extending his stay down-under! Already announced to play at this year’s Splendour in the Grass, FJM will also take to stages in Sydney and Melbourne this July for two intimate headline shows. Father John Misty AKA Josh Tillman comes to Australia armed with his newest record, ‘Pure Comedy’. Set for release on April 7, the album sees Tillman at the height of his powers: as a lyricist and cultural observer. FJM navigates themes of progress, technology, fame, the environment, politics, social media, human nature, and his own role in it all with his usual candour. Tillman wrote ‘Pure Comedy’ throughout 2015, recording the vocals and basic tracking live to tape (and in no more than two takes each) at the iconic United Studio’s in LA. Since 2012, Father John Misty has emerged as a singular, if not undeniably idiosyncratic voice. Whether by virtue of his lyrics, which routinely defy the presumed polarities of wit and empathy; his “intimately beserk” live performances, or the infuriating line he occupies between canny and totally ironic, Father John Misty has cultivated a rare space for himself in the musical landscape - the enigma. ‘Pure Comedy’ is the follow up to Tillman’s critically acclaimed second LP ‘I Love You Honeybear’. With slots at the likes of Coachella and Glastonbury to his name and nods from big players like Rolling Stone, NME and Pitchfork, ‘I love You Honey Bear’ catapulted FJM to new heights. Tickets to his last Australian shows sold out fast and with more intimate venues planned this time around, tickets won’t last long!

These will be Death Grips first Australian shows since 2013 and the release of their fifth full-length album Bottomless Pit. ‘Zach Hill, Andy Morin and Stefan Burnett (otherwise known as MC Ride) are easily the most talented, impactful culture jammers of the streaming age.’ - Pitchfork. ‘Bottomless Pit finds Ride, producer Flatlander and drummer Zach Hill in their most cohesive and incendiary form.’ - Consequence of Sound. ‘For all the hype surrounding Death Grips and the artifice they build around themselves, it’s undeniable that they are worthy of the adoration they receive. Six years in, Death Grips have become essential listening.’ - London in Stereo. Originating in Sacramento, California, Death Grips released their first mixtape Exmilitary for free in 2011. After receiving widespread acclaim upon its release from music critics such as Pitchfork, NME and Rolling Stone, hit single ‘Guillotine’ went on to become Time Out NY’s #1 single of 2011. Frenzal Rhomb

^^

When: Saturday 5th August
Where: Metro Theatre

Hey good news everyone: Frenzal Rhomb have made a new album, and booked a tour to go with it! Yep, Frenzal Rhomb, the most hospitalised band in the world (Seriously, everything from broken drumming arms and detached guitar-playing retinas to an actual pig-borne tapeworm in the lead singer's brain), are releasing their ninth full-length punk rock record. And just like a ninth child to a religious family, they're really getting good at it. Recorded once again by Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag) and Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, Hi-Vis High Tea is a concept album about a whole bunch of different concepts. 20 songs clocking in at just over 30 minutes, but what they lack in length they make up for in brevity. And it sounds fucken rad. But don't take my word for it, I'm just a computer-generated bio-writing algorithm Frenzal Rhomb downloaded from the darknet; you should just listen to the album. "Oh but it's not out until 26th May" I hear you say. Can't your l33t haxxor mates wikileak it from Assange's Trumpified arsehole? If not then here, as a gesture of goodwill, is a gift; a song in fact. A shiny, pop, ready-for-radio single. Perfect for you end-of-year summer hit compilations. Oh yeah, and it's called "Cunt Act". Learn it, coz your kids are gonna get it tattooed on their faces. And enjoy the video, as crafted by Frenzal Rhomb collaborator and enabler Mr Fox Trotsky. Please clap.

The Trio members meet each year for an exhilarating series of concerts, performed with consummate technique. In this concert the Trio performs music that explores both the radiance and the darkness in life. Mozart’s piano trio is captivating and lively; it dazzles with elegant clarity and crisp precision. The rich dramatic textures of Beethoven’s Ghost trio create a darker beauty that is mysterious and brooding. Schubert’s Notturno glows with tenderness and gentle happiness, while dark and complex emotions lie at the heart of Smetana’s passionate trio. Sydney Mozart Society is a not-for-profit group dedicated to promoting the music of Mozart and other great classical composers and to providing Sydney audiences with world-class performances by leading chamber musicians.
