Variety Rocks

On 31 October, 2017 a line-up of Australia’s greatest musicians will join forces to raise funds for Variety - the Children’s Charity at the Enmore Theatre for the first ever Variety Rocks concert. We are pleased to announce a stellar line up of artists: Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo), Steve Balbi (Mi-Sex), Guy Delandro, Casey Donovan, Jeff Duff, Melanie Dyer, Mark Gable (Choirboys), Spencer Jones (The Voice), Steve Kilbey (The Church), Melinda Schneider, Glenn Shorrock, Alex Smith (Moving Pictures), Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc), Mark Williams (Dragon) and John Paul Young. With more artists to be added to the sensational line up soon. What makes the concert so unique and so much fun is watching the performers put their stamp on their favourite Aussie songs. Their choices will make for an unforgettable never to be repeated musical night of nights. Aussie icon and long term Variety supporter John Paul Young is looking forward to the night. “The Variety Rocks concert combines two of my big loves, Variety the Children's Charity and the music of Vanda and Young,” he said.“Firstly, Variety ticks all the boxes for me because of the great work they do and the fun we have fundraising. Add to that, Vanda and Young because I’ll be performing their song “Friday on my Mind”, voted by the Australian public to be the best Australian song ever written and you have a very happy JPY.” In conjunction with Empire Touring, Variety - the Children’s Charity hopes to raise much needed funds to help Aussie kids in need. “Variety has a long history of support from the entertainment industry and we look forward to continuing that wonderful heritage with Variety Rocks this October,” Variety NSW CEO David Sexton said. “We have an incredible line up of artists who will light up the Enmore Theatre for a night of great entertainment and fundraising to help Aussie kids facing challenges in life.” Funds raised will go towards providing Music Therapy for the Variety Ward at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead which cares for kids battling serious illnesses.

Winston Surfshirt

One of this year’s brightest acts is Sydney six-piece Winston Surfshirt, who today share their new single “Same Same” out via Sweat It Out. Accompanying the single arrives news of their debut album titled Sponge Cake set for release September 29, celebrated with a national headline tour. “Same Same” is armed with a throbbing bass line, catchy chorus and vibrant jazz-infused interludes. The multi-layered track is only to be complemented perfectly by Winston’s signature vocals. 'This was one of the last songs written for Sponge Cake, It started in a different pitch and was much slower, I think through almost playing it live a couple days after it was written for about a year helped to form it into the party that it is now. We called in some extra brass and percussion which really helped create it in to the song you're hearing today.' – Winston.

The Temper Trap

Frontier Touring are pleased to confirm The Temper Trap will return to Australian soil to play Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Wed 22 Nov. These shows will mark the band’s first time back in Australia since their co-headline tour with Garbage last year in November and December and their sell out headline tour last May. Following a period of writing and recording abroad, multi-platinum singer-songwriter and local favourite Vance Joy has unveiled a brand new single, ‘Lay It On Me’, with an accompanying video. In a further treat for fans, the Melbourne musician has also announced two headline shows for this November, in both his hometown and Sydney. ‘Lay It On Me’ received its worldwide premiere via triple j’s breakfast team, and is the first taste of new music from Vance Joy since 2014’s hugely successful, ARIA #1 debut album, Dream Your Life Away. The album is certified platinum in Australia with 115,000 sales and includes the singles ‘Riptide’ (8x platinum) ‘Fire and the Flood’ (3x platinum), Georgia (2x platinum) and Mess Is Mine (2x platinum). Revered Norwegian producer Todd Terje, today announces the details of his upcoming Australian tour this December. Bringing his live band The Olsens to Australia for the very first time, Todd Terje & The Olsens will headline shows at Sydney’s Metro Theatre and Melbourne’s Forum Theatre, along with his recently announced headline set at Meredith Music Festival. The tour follows the release of his latest single ‘Maskindans’, the first to be taken from his sophomore LP out on Olsen Records in 2018. ‘Maskindans’ is a body moving cover of a Norse Synth spectacular from the dystopian dance floors of ’82. It's the first track to be taken from Terje’s long-awaited second album, and follows on from the acclaimed debut LP It’s Album Time! The 2014 release defined the Scandinavian disco sound and marked Terje as one of the most prominent producers of the last decade, featuring cult anthem 'Inspector Norse', which was heralded by Mixmag as the Best Track Of The Year.
