Where: Metro Theatre

Introducing your new musical obsession! Pop five-piece Why Don’t We are headed to Australia for the very first time for Frontier Touring, performing two special shows in Melbourne and Sydney in August 2018. Formed in September 2016 and signed to Atlantic Records, Why Don’t We is one of pop music’s biggest breakout stories. The stats are stratospheric: more than 120 million global audio streams, 2.8m Instagram followers, and YouTube views exceeding 200m, with more than 1.8m subscribers. Currently on tour across the US, it’s finally time for Why Don’t We to head down under this August! Why Don’t We recently unveiled their latest single, ‘Hooked’, which shot to #3 on the US iTunes’ Overall Songs charts, ahead of Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande, and #28 here in Australia, out front of Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Conrad Sewell. That’s just the latest win for the prolific 16-19 year olds (who can play 25 instruments between them), following a string of earlier successes. In February 2018, Why Don’t We released ‘Trust Fund Baby’ – written by none other than global superstar and label mate Ed Sheeran and produced by British hitmaker Steve Mac. It followed earlier tracks ‘Invitation’ and ‘These Girls’, the latter’s video boasting almost 49 million on the band’s phenomenally popular YouTube channel. Joining Why Don’t We on stage in Australia is charismatic 21-year-old singer/producer EBEN! Over 300,000+ followers on social media know what’s up: the Los Angeles-via-Cincinnati singer’s infectious, hip-hop-flavoured pop is all over current single ‘LAMBO’, his vocals produced and recorded by esteemed producer R8DIO (Solange, Will Smith).Reaching #10 on the Spotify US viral charts, it also landed in their coveted New Music Friday playlist. EBEN (born Eben Franckewitz) first hit the road touring with Why Don’t We in 2017, as the band’s opening DJ and behind-the-scenes production assistant, following his winning pop collection Finally got their attention online. Check the video for ‘LAMBO’and witness EBEN’s fantastically warped sense of humour: think custom-designed mini-Lamborghinis and little-kid cops, the clip boasting over 325k YouTube views so far.

Where: Metro Theatre

Their phenomenal success over the last three years in support of the Polaris album saw them play worldwide tours as both headliners and as special guests for the likes of Megadeth, Meshuggah, The Devin Townsend Project and Gojira. ‘It's going to be a busy 2018! We're very excited to announce our return to Australia in September. Our last tour there was an amazing success and experience and we look forward to getting back to the Southern Hemisphere to play for our Aussie fans. We're touring with the natives, Circles...a great band who bring a lot to this tour,' said Daniel Tompkins, TesseracT lead vocalist. TesseracT's fourth studio album, Sonder, will be released on Friday, April 20 via KScope and showcases perfectly why they remain pioneering leaders of the ever-evolving metal scene. Sitting outside the bounds of any genre specificity, TesseracT are an unstoppable force of off-kilter riffs, soaring melodies, bending grooves and disorientating atmospherics. Adding significant firepower to the band's arsenal, Sonder blends the harsh abrasiveness of “One” (2011) and progressive ethereal elements of Altered State (2013) with the accessibility of Polaris (2015). Joining TesseracT on all shows are Melbourne progressive powerhouse, Circles. Leading the way in the evolution of Australian heavy music, Circles look set to take on the world. Intricate and emotional yet crushingly heavy, the band continually expand what is achievable within rock, metal and the djent sub-genre. With a growing global fanbase and epic sets at some of the world's most prestigious heavy and prog festivals, Circles are a perfect fit as TesseracT's special guests. Prepare for a night of sonic wizardry as TesseracT and Circles take you on an aural journey like no other. This is one event of sensory overload you simply must experience.

Wolf Alice

^^

When: Sunday 23rd September
Where: Metro Theatre

‘Wolf Alice are not just another indie band'. NME's statement about the North London quartet is a simple one, but it captures the powerful waves they're making both in studio and live. Frontier Touring are thrilled to announce that they will return to Australia this September to perform headline shows with plenty of bite! The band's roots go back to 2010, when vocalist Ellie Roswell and guitarist Joff Oddie came together to make tunes inflected with a mix of rock, folk, grunge and shoegaze. Joel Amey (drums) and Theo Ellis (bassist) completed the group a few years later, culminating in the release of their debut EP Blush. That momentum continued with the group's debut album My Love is Cool (2015), a critical and commercial success. The gold-certified release hit #2 on the UK charts, garnered multiple nominations including the Mercury Prize and Grammys, and led to the band claiming the NME Award for Best Live Band. Last year's second record Visions of a Life, recorded in Los Angeles, took things to new heights on stellar tracks including the slow-burning ‘Don't Delete The Kisses', and ‘Beautifully Unconventional' with its beast of a groove. Fittingly describing the album but also apt for the band's power onstage, Rolling Stone asserted ‘The stakes are high, and the payoffs are real.' Live is where Wolf Alice's combination of bite and beauty is most strongly felt. The powerhouse quartet have dominated their own headline shows and supported Queens Of The Stone Age in the US and will support both Liam Gallagher in the UK and the Foo Fighters in Europe in the coming months, before embarking on a string of northern summer festivals. They've found something of another home down here, smashing Falls Festival in 2014, Splendour the following year – including a pair of rip-roaring Sydney and Melbourne sideshows – and 2018's Laneway. In amongst all this, Wolf Alice have contributed to iconic soundtracks including 2016's Ghostbusters and T2 Trainspotting. If there's a soundtrack though that's simple yet dynamic, brash yet beautiful, it's the one that the band have been carving out for themselves. You won't want to miss out on these guys when they hit our shores again for this latest headline run!

Thundamentals

^^

When: Saturday 1st December
Where: Enmore Theatre

Following the release of lead single ‘I Miss You’, Thundamentals have announced their new album I Love Songs will drop on September 21st, and deliver yet another track from the album, ‘All I See Is Music’. In more news, the hip-hop heavyweights have announced they will be taking their new album on the road for their I LOVE SONGS TOUR. Fans of the group will be familiar with their frequent political commentary, but amongst an increasingly turbulent society, Thundamentals have decided to focus their album on what's been lost amongst the chaos: Love. As a result, I Love Songs is an intensely personal listen, focusing on love in its varying forms, and showing Thundamentals' undeniable writing ability in a more intimate light. "Everyone knows how f**ked we are politically, and Thundamentals have been banging on about it for ten years," Tuka says. "We just wanted to write love songs instead, ones that would actually make people feel calm and connect with people around them”. With the subject matter at hand, it's no surprise that this is Thundamentals' most effortless album, and their quickest to complete. "I really feel like we made it without a lot of preconceptions. It just feels like the most natural, 'true to us' project that we've ever released." Jeswon says. The concept was conceived and executed while the group were touring their 2017 album Everyone We Know, written in candid moments of on-road reflection. I Love Songs explores the isolation and broken romances that happen behind the scenes, away from the sold-out crowds and star-studded festivals. It's an album of stark contrast, and brutally honest introspection that yearns for something more. In terms of production, the album reflects the vast array of emotions explored by the band, while pushing further into the sonic territories of electronica, gospel and R&B. There's the silky modern hum of album opener 'All I See Is Music', 'Eyes On Me' transports you to sunnier times with its warm island embrace, and 'Everybody But You' builds slowly into a mesmerizing sing-a-long at its conclusion. Mostly self-produced alongside acclaimed Sydney multi-instrumentalist Carl Dimataga (Khalid) and featuring guest appearances from Australian upstarts Eves Karydas and Adrian Eagle. I Love Songs is a contemporary and adventurous approach, while still retaining Thundamentals' traditional roots in rap. 2018 marks a 'Decade of the Thundakat', and with 10 years under their belts Thundamentals are now moving with more momentum than ever.
